Remembering Scarborough's GECO Girls: A Conversation with Barbara Dickson at Scarborough Museum

Details

This November, we remember Scarborough's very own GECO girls! Along with a pop-up panel highlighting these women, Scarborough Museum will be hosting a conversation with author and local historian, Barbara Dickson, as she discusses her book “Bomb Girls: Trading Aprons for Ammo” by the fireside, followed by a book signing.

Challenging common gender narratives regarding war efforts, Dickson traces the lives of these women and their dangerous work at Canada’s largest fuse filling munitions factory. Ranging in age from 17 to 70, they included newcomers from countries like Nigeria, Greece, China, and Syria. If you love what you learn, limited copies will be available for purchase.

As part of the Community Memories project the City of Toronto Collections and Archives team will be part of this event. If you have family photo you'd like to preserve, they will scan and digitize it for free!

Treats and refreshments will be available on a first come-first served basis, while quantities last.
