Gibson House Museum - My Voice in a Quilt

Details

This collective exhibition of textile artwork was handcrafted by Syrian women, all newcomers to Toronto, as part of a Toronto Arts Council Animating Historic Sites program.

Each quilt is composed of individual squares handcrafted by one woman, reflecting her emotions, memories, hopes and personal stories.

Together, these women gathered in a space for storytelling and emotional expression to share, support one another, and transform their lived experiences into art.

Together, these pieces create a shared tapestry of connection, strength and beauty through stitches, colours, and fabrics. Stories of loss and resilience, displacement and belonging, pain and hope are a shared narrative and experience.

Together, these quilts form a shared tapestry, a collective voice rising from women’s hearts, creating beauty and solidarity through the art of textile making.
