From Cloth to Code: New Media Responses

Details

Through the perspectives of nine Toronto-based artists, the exhibition reimagines textile heritage and practices using interactive technologies, sound installations, 3-D printed sculptures, animation, neon, and projections.

Digitally rendered garments reinterpret the narratives embedded in historic fabrics, while 3-D printed forms meditate on material decay and displacement. Interactive components invite viewers to design digital carpets, while immersive soundscapes trace over diasporic histories. Everyday objects such as rugs and combs are recontextualized to expose colonial legacies and their ongoing relevance.

Each artist approaches the Museum’s collection as both catalyst and collaborator, translating these literal threads of memory, identity, and material culture into digital form. The Museum is embracing a new era of textile art, where the fabrics our collection transform into digital responses.
